Strength
POZZOFILZ HRM create concrete compressive strengths ABOVE 100 MPa. POZZOFILZ HRM is a cost effective way to boost concrete strength for more typical structural requirements. The additional capacity provided by metakaolin can be used to create longer spans, stronger structures and smaller cross sections for more efficient concrete construction.

POZZOFILZ HRM is a highly reactive pozzolan: It aggressively converts the lime produced as a byproduct of cement hydration into additional calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) - the interlocking crystals that bind together to give concrete its strength.

POZZOFILZ HRM particles also perform as microfined filler: While concrete may seem like a solid material, it contains numerous microscopic pores and voids formed by excess water in a concrete mixture. The tiny particles of Metakaolin extend the cement paste so it fills these gaps and makes more contact with the aggregates in concrete.

Workability
The workability of concrete is determined by many factors and must be considered in relation to the requirements of each project. The following observations can, however, be made about the impact of high reactivity metakaolin (HRM):

POZZOFILZ HRM can be placed, finished and cured in pretty much the same manner as concrete without HRM.

The addition of MetaMax HRM reduces concrete slump and may require the addition of a high range water reducer (HRWR). MetaMax HRM requires a lower dosage of HRWR, however, than would silica fume.

When MetaMax HRM is used to replace 5 to 10% by weight of the cement in a mixture, concrete is generally more cohesive and less likely to bleed. As a result pumping and finishing processes require less effort.

MetaMax HRM tends to improve troweled finishes by giving concrete a "creamy" or "buttery" texture that makes it easier to trowel and finish.

The improved workability is a function of the size of the MetaMax particles. By filling the space between grains of fine aggregate, MetaMax creates a thicker, richer paste that does a better job of supporting aggregates and enabling a mixture to flow with less shear or segregation.

This is analogous to the use of well-graded aggregates in concrete. Well-graded aggregates contain predetermined proportions of large, medium and small coarse aggregate (crushed rock or gravel) and similarly graded fine aggregate (sand). Well-graded aggregates pack together more tightly to improve concrete's density and strength. Plus, well-graded aggregates have a better "flow" because the medium and small pieces act like ball bearings to keep large pieces from getting jammed.
